Chateau d'Azay-de-Rideau

Our visit to Chateau d'Azay-de-Rideau was a surprise addition to our afternoon schedule and we ended up really enjoying our time there, as well as the time we spent in town. This chateau has long been considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance architectural marvels in the Loire Valley. Built at the beginning of the 16th century, it combines French architecture with Italian and Flemish influences. We found ourselves fascinated by the moat as well as by the fact that the chateau seemed to look just a little bit different, depending on the angle.

Our friends Steve and Jennifer were walking in on the bath (in the distance) and we were waving to them from above.

I really fell in love with this chateau. I just love this photo.

The Renaissance Chamber reflects the refinement of 16th century interiors. The bed is the centerpiece, with the richness of silk fabrics embellished with embroidery and trimmings of gold and silver thread.
These tapestries were woven in wool and silk and are arranged as a narrative telling the story of Psyche.
The monumental fireplace of the Great Hall.
The King's Chamber.

In town, there were several small art stores that we enjoyed exploring. Elizabeth added to her print collection and I ended up purchasing a small painting.
